OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY JANUARY 17TH 2025

Image
TOPIC: DON'T OUTGROW CORRECTIONS MEMORISE:  While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Hebrews 3:15 READ : Proverbs 15:10-12 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? 12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. MESSAGE For every action or inaction, there are consequences. This is why you should consider it a great privilege when you have people around you who can correct you whenever you do something wrong so that you do not have to suffer terrible consequences. Unfortunately, some people do not listen to corrections. The Bible refers to such people as servants. A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. Proverbs 29:19 You can choose between being corrected by words or by consequences. If you...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. BOASTING DISALLOWED. Saturday October 31st 2015

Memorise: And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 1 Corinthians 8:2 Read: Psalm 49:6-7 6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: Message An individual who believes he or she is wiser than other people is proud. Proverbs 26:12 says: “Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.” It is bad enough to be a fool, but this Scripture tells us that a person who thinks he knows more than every other person is in worse shape. While there may still be a ray of hope left for the fool, the case of the proud is almost completely hopeless. 1 Corinthians 8:2 says: “And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.” It is what some people know that makes them proud (1 Corinthians 8:1). The knowledge of Go...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CHOSEN FOR LAUGHTER. Friday October 30th 2015

Image
Memorise: And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Genesis 21:6 Read: Genesis 21:1-6 1 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. 6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Message We serve a God that fills the mouth of his chosen with laughter. Some chosen of the Lord testified of this in Psalms 126:2 saying: “Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.” In Genesis...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. DANGERS OF ENVY II. Thursday October 29th 2015

Image
Memorise: And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachael envied her sisters; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. Genesis 30:1 Read: Numbers 16:29-35 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me. 30 But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked theLord. 31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. 34 And all Israel that were rou...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. DANGER OF ENVY I. Wednesday October 28th 2015

Image
Memorise: A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. Proverbs 14:30 Read: Genesis 4:3-8 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. Message From Proverbs 3:31-33 we understand that oppressors should not be envied, because there is a divi...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. HELP AFTER LOSING HOPE. Monday 26th October 2015

Image
Memorise:   For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. Ecclesiastes 9:4   Read; Luke 7:11-15 11  And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. 11  And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.     12  Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13  And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14  And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. Message It is ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. RAISING GODLY CHILDREN. Sunday October 25th 2015

Image
Memorise: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nature and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 Read: Ephesians 6:1-4 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Messge When God gives you children, He expects you to raise them in a godly manner. For this season, He sent you this express command in Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This passage of Scripture tells us to “train up a child”. In other words, even when God gives you several children, each of them requires personal attention. Every child is different from the other. Never lump children together without ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. INSTRUMENTS OF DELIVERANCE. Saturday October 24th 2015

Image
Memorise: But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Jeremiah 1:7 Read: Genesis 50:18-20 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Message Children are carriers of blessings wherever they go. When Isaac was born, God put paid to the sorrow in the heart of his parents (Genesis 21:6-7). When Samuel was born, the chief mocker of his mother had no choice than to swallow her words (1 Samuel 1:6-7 & 2:1-3). Similarly, when Samson was born, the children of Israel began to receive the deliverance that had eluded them for so long (Judges 13:2-5). This shows that God can send you a child just to deliver you, your fa...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES? Friday October 23rd 2015

Image
Memorise; Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Psalm 3:7 Read; Psalm 3:5-7 5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. 7 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Message One character flaw that has worked against many people all through the ages is pride. Unfortunately, many people fail to recognise pride for what it is; rather, they see it as part of self respect. Proverbs 21:4 says pride manifests itself in the carriage of a person and in the state of their heart. Not many proud people realise that they are proud. Psalm 73:6 says pride is like a chain around the neck of the proud. In other words, pride cannot be hidden for too long, just as a necklace is seen by al...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. WORSHIP: WHAT STATE OF MATURITY – Thursday October 22nd 2015

Image
Memorise: Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Psalm 113:2 Read: Psalm 113:1-6 1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. 2 Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. 3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised. 4 The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high, 6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth. Message It is a great thing for you to seek God, but it is a far greater thing for God to seek you out.  From experience, most people only seek God because they are in need, and because they want Him to do something for them. This is self-centredness. God may not seek out such people. Those who God seeks after are the ones who worship Him for who He is. Jesus, at Jacob’s well, revealed the class o...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. ENVY: NOT COMELY. Wednesday October 21st 2015

Image
Memorise: Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. Psalm 37:1 Read: Psalm 37:1-2 1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Message One character trait that has led to the destruction of a lot of people is envy. Envy is evil because it demonstrates the absence of love (1 Corinthians 13:4). People become envious when another person has what they don’t have, or when a person can do what they can’t do. An envious fellow is one who lives a life of comparison, contrary to what the Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 10:12: “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” An envious fellow compares his progress with that of...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT. Tuesday October 20th 2015

Image
Memorise: For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Psalm 91:11 Read: Daniel 6:19-22 19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. 20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? 21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. 22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. Message One of the markers indicating that a life is blessed of God is the receipt of support from heaven. Such support can be manifested as heavenly bodies working to advance the objectives of the blessed. When the wise men from the East were looking for Jesus, and they did not know where...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. WHEN HELP IS VOLUNTEERED. Monday October 19th 2015

Image
Memorise: Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32 Read: Esther 5:1-3 5 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. 2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. 3 Then said the king unto her, what wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. Message After Esther touched the sceptre of a mere mortal king, death was turned into life for her; how much more will great things happen to those who touch the sceptre of the King of kings. I can assure you that lot...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. WEALTH TRANSFER. Sunday October 18th 2015

Image
Memorise: A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Proverbs 13:22 Read: Proverbs 13:21-22 21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Message Because God owns everything on earth, He can give a person power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Not only does He give power to get wealth, He also transfers wealth from one person to another. God can transfers wealth from the enemies of His children, to those who will serve Him. He can equally transfer wealth from His children whom He has blessed, who refuse to utilise their blessings for His purpose, to those believers who will use it to glorify Him. If you are stingy, you are not like your Heavenly Father. When I was young, there was a man I knew who was extremely wealthy but extremely miserly. He was so stingy th...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CARRIERS OF BLESSINGS Saturday October 17th 2015

Image
Memorise: Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:5 Read: Genesis 21:1-6 21 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. Message When adults and parents are stained with sin or have become preoccupied with the affairs of life, God may speak to them through their children. This was exactly what happened to Eli (1 Samuel 3:1-10). One reason why children are such powerful weapons in God...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. MARRIED TO IDOLS? Friday October 16th 2015

Image
Memorise: Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone. Hosea 4:17 Read: Deuteronomy 4:15-20 15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: 16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, 18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: 19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. 20 But the Lord hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a peopl...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CLAIMING UNCLAIMED HARVESTS Thursday October 15th 2015

Image
Memorise: I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. John 4:38 Read: John 4:35-38 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. Message Total restoration is possible for those who believe in God. Beyond total restoration, it is equally possible to be a recipient of uncommon restoration. An uncommon restoration occurs in a situation where your progenitors laboured without a harvest, but when you turned up, you received the reward for all their labours. That w...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. THE SUPER NEED Wednesday October 14th 2015

Image
Memorise: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42 Read: Luke 10:38-42 38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Message When a person chases several rats in different directions, the most likely outcome is that none of those rats will be caught. In life, we are often barraged with so many competing issues at the same time, most of wh...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. ELEMENTS PROVIDE SUPPORT Tuesday October 13th 2015

Image
Memorise: The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. Psalm 121:6 Read: Joshua 10:12-14 12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. 13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. 14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel. Message On the 6th of October, we studied some of the markers which indicate that a life is blessed. We gained insight into the fact that when you are blessed, the seasons will cooperate with you to succeed. We also saw that the heavenly bodies provide support to enable a blesse...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CHANGE THROUGH CONTACT Monday October 12th 2015

Image
Memorise: But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:24 Read: 2 Kings 2:19-22 19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren. 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land. 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake. Message A sceptre is the symbol of a king’s authority. It carries so much power that a king can send it somewhere as a representation of his physical presence. Where the sceptre of a king is, it means  the king is there himself; and only the king’s most trusted chamb...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. OBEY OR LOSE YOUR CHANCE Sunday October 11th 2015

Image
Memorise: While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Hebrews 3:15 Read; Hebrews 3:13-15 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Message Beloved, if God indicates to you His desire to use you in building His kingdom in one capacity or another, do not hesitate, because He may just use someone else if you do. One of my pastors and I once went through an experience relevant to this subject. During the early days of building the Redemption Camp, when things were very rough and tough, I practically lived at the camp, as I tried to ensure that the little we had was efficiently utilised. On a particular day, we were in need of a certain amount. T...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. WHY CHILDREN ARE USEFUL Saturday October 10th 2015

Image
Memorise: Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:10 Read: Matthew 18:1-5 18 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Message Children are not just God’s property; they are also God’s weapons of war. This is why you must be very careful in the way you handle or treat them. Jesus gave us a fascinating revelation about children in Matthew 18:10, where He said: “Take heed that ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL STEALING HIS GLORY? Friday October 9th 2015

Image
Memorise: For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? And I will not give my glory unto another. Isaiah 48:11 Read: Acts 12:20-23 20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. Message It is very wrong, and an act of stealing, for a person to take all the credit for a job done by team effort. If you are part of the team that performed a particular feat, it is wrong to relegate others to the background and bring ...
