OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY JANUARY 17TH 2025

Image
TOPIC: DON'T OUTGROW CORRECTIONS MEMORISE:  While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Hebrews 3:15 READ : Proverbs 15:10-12 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? 12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. MESSAGE For every action or inaction, there are consequences. This is why you should consider it a great privilege when you have people around you who can correct you whenever you do something wrong so that you do not have to suffer terrible consequences. Unfortunately, some people do not listen to corrections. The Bible refers to such people as servants. A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. Proverbs 29:19 You can choose between being corrected by words or by consequences. If you...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. HATE WHAT GOD HATES : FRIDAY 31ST JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Hebrews 1:9 READ: Proverbs 6:16-19 16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. MESSAGE   You cannot claim to love what God loves and not hate what He hates. The Bible had made it easy for us to identify the things that God hates by listing them out in Proverbs 6:16-19: “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth dis...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. LOVE WHAT GOD LOVES. : THURSDAY 30th JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. IJohn 5:3 READ: 1John 5:1-3 1. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. MESSAGE   There is a popular saying that the friend of my friend is my friend. If God is your friend, then you would love anyone or anything He loves. For example, God loves children. He likes having them around Him (Matthew 19:14) and He ensures that their angels stand face to face with Him (Matthew 18:10). I hope you love children too, because if you are always mean to children or you are indifferent when others are mean to them, then you cannot claim to love God. So what are the things God loves? He loves f...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CRUSH THAT CRUSH II. : WEDNESDAY 29th JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. Proverbs 6:26 READ: Proverbs 6:23-29 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. 25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. 26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? 29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. MESSAGE   Today, I will be focusing on the married. It is sad that many married people are still having crushes with persons apart from their spouses. If there is any fellow aside from your spouse you ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CRUSH THAT CRUSH I. : TUESDAY 28th JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 1 Kings 11:1 READ: 1 Kings 11:1-11 1But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammoni...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVDEVOTIONAL. THE WORD OR THE WORLD? : MONDAY 27th JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 READ: 1 John 2:14-17 14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. MESSAGE   People are naturally influenced by what they constantly see or hear. Thus, every Christian is at the risk of being influenced by the world around them...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. MAKE JESUS TREND : SUNDAY 26th JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15 READ: Matthew 24:12-14 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. MESSAGE   This present time is often called the digital age. The internet possesses great benefits, but it is also fast becoming a curse. You can hardly visit the internet without a worldly picture popping up; they are either asking you to register on a dating site or advertising something with a half-naked woman. It is probably not so harmful for mature Christians, but what of our children who visit this same internet regularly? Less than fifteen years ago, we had magazines which were untouchable to children because of their explicit content, but today, the children have access to every...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. GOD’S SANDPAPER : SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Hebrews 12:11 READ: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. MESSAGE   When a carpenter is working on a piece of furniture, he has a picture of what he wants the finished work t look like. He puts in a lot of effort to make the piece of wood into what he has in mind, and if it is not smooth as he wishes, he smoothens it to the desired state with some sandpaper. Jesus Christ is our carpenter and He has a picture of what...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. AMBASSADORS OF CHRIST : FRIDAY 24TH JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20 READ: 1 Corinthians 8:9-13 9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. MESSAGE   An ambassador is an accredited person who represents his/her nation in a foreign country.  When a country chooses a person to serve as an ambassador, it means the fellow has characteristic...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. SALT OF THE EARTH. : THURSDAY 23RD JANUARY 2020.

Image
MEMORISE: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13 READ: Luke 14:34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? MESSAGE   The statement “You are the salt of the earth” means that without you, the earth cannot be sweet. Hence, the sweetness of this world depends on you. One of the ways by which you can be like salt in your world is through the words of your mouth. Colossians 4:6 says: “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Always speak soothing words to the downtrodden, never use harsh and abusive words and ensure your words are healing rather than killing those who hear them. Another way to be the salt of the earth is to show kindness to others. Your little act of kindness is a great factor in making the world ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. LIGHT OF THE WORLD : WEDNESDAY 22ND JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 READ:  Matthew 5:14-16 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. MESSAGE    “…I am the light of the world.” In the scripture above (John 8:12), Jesus introduced Himself as the light of the world, then turned around to say that we (Christians) are the light of the world in Matthew 5:14.  “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” In other words, we share similar characteristics with Jesus Christ. Now, if you the great characteristics that Jesus Christ had while on earth, why are you hiding them. Light is supposed ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CHILDREN OF GOD ARE PEACEMAKERS II. : TUESDAY 21ST JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another  Romans 14:19 READ:  Romans 14:17-19 17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. MESSAGE   when there is a dispute going on around you, there are three lines of action you can take: You can stay out of it, take sides or make peace between the quarreling parties. God expects His children to pick the option of making peace at all times. When you are known as a Christian, people respect and trust your judgment. Hence it would be of great effect if you attempt to make peace between quarreling parties. Your involvement can avert a lot of things like a full-blown fight, a long period of malice or an unresol...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. CHILDREN OF GOD ARE PEACEMAKERS : MONDAY 20TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9 READ:  Matthew 5:39-48 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. 41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. A PURE HEART. : SUNDAY 19TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 READ:  Psalm 24:3-6 3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. MESSAGE  To be pure means to be of only one form, to be completely undiluted. God expects your heart to be pure that nothing aside from Him can be found in it. This is standard for all children of God. Jesus, during His earthly ministry spoke about His purity in John 14:30 thus: “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” Your heart is the most delicate part of your body. The quality of your spirit is dependent on the content of your heart that is why...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. BE MERCIFUL : SATURDAY 18TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE : Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7 READ:  Matthew 18:23-35 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. HOW HUNGRY ARE YOU? : FRIDAY 17TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 READ:  Psalm 42:1-8 1As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. THE MEEK : THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 READ:  Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. MESSAGE  The word “meek”, within the context of our memory verse is best described as strength under control. To be meek in this sense then means to have power, yet decide not to use it just for the greater good. A meek fellow is one that the world would easily call a fool or mumu in my local parlance. A meek fellow is one whose toe you can step on yet still have him apologize. Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” From the above passage, we see that the yoke of Jesus Christ is one of meekness. You cannot claim to be a true Christian without being meek. If someone slaps you and you retaliate, check your Christianity. If someone offends you and because of that, you decided not to relate with the fel...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. THE MOURNERS : WEDNESDAY 15TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE: Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 READ: Amos 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! MESSAGE   To mourn is to be grieved by an occurrence. It means to be so concerned about something that deeply affects your emotions. Jesus in our memory verse today is saying that mourners are blessed. Are you a mourner? Are you grieved by the state of things in this world or are you indifferent? Sin is becoming normal in our world today and it is unthinkable that anyone will not mourn about this. Even the Church is now striving hard to be like the world. Didn’t the Bible say “Be ye separate” (2 Corinthians 6:17)? Do you mourn for the next generation? Social Media has exposed our children to all sorts of perversion these days and even teenagers are now well versed in sexual activities. Do you mourn that thousands are dying due to religious war...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. THE POOR IN SPIRIT. : TUESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2020

Image
MEMORISE : Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 READ:  Psalm 42:1-2 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? MESSAGE  To be poor in Spirit does not mean to lack Spirituality as many people think. Being poor is a state of mind. When a person is poor in Spirit, the fellow is hungry for the Spirit of God. Our memory verse says: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” To be poor in Spirit means that no matter how much you have grown spiritually, you still pant and yearn for more of God’s Spirit in you. Some people attain certain spiritual heights and begin to call themselves spiritual giants. The moment you start feeling like a giant in the things of God, your decline begins. Once I prayed for thirty-six hours non-stop, taking only bathroom breaks. I was feeling very good, belie...
