OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY JANUARY 17TH 2025

TOPIC: DON'T OUTGROW CORRECTIONS MEMORISE:  While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Hebrews 3:15 READ : Proverbs 15:10-12 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? 12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. MESSAGE For every action or inaction, there are consequences. This is why you should consider it a great privilege when you have people around you who can correct you whenever you do something wrong so that you do not have to suffer terrible consequences. Unfortunately, some people do not listen to corrections. The Bible refers to such people as servants. A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. Proverbs 29:19 You can choose between being corrected by words or by consequences. If you...

TOPIC: MATERIAL PROSPERITY IS UNRELIABLE.    MEMORISE: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36 READ: Revelation 3:14-19. 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealo...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL : TUESDAY 29th JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:  WHAT SIDE ARE YOU ON?    MEMORISE: The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born. Mark 14:21 READ: Mark 14:17-21 17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. 18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? 20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. 21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born. MESSAGE:  There are basically two sides of life- the right and the wrong. When we consider the role Judas Iscariot played in the crucifixion of Jesus, we cannot sympathize with him. This is because, although some...

TOPIC:  HEARTITUDE    MEMORISE: And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, Luke 17:15 READ:   Luke 17:15-19. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. 19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. MESSAGE:  Our title is a coinage of the words ‘heart’ and ‘gratitude’ meaning a heart of gratitude. God can perform miracles in the life of anybody; all He demands is gratitude thereafter. Anyone who lacks gratitude will ultimately miss everything good in life, and may not be blessed again. We see this in the story of the ten lepers Jesus healed in our Bible reading for today. Jesus a...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY 27th JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:  WHO DO YOU PRAY TO?     MEMORISE: Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. Psalm 5:2 READ:  Psalm 5:1-3. 1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. MESSAGE:  The Psalmist, in our memory verse for today, made a great discovery. He found that prayer is very important to anyone who wants to be victorious in life. Not only that, the Person to whom we channel our prayers is even more important. In 2 Kings 6:26-27, we see a woman who misdirected her prayer to the King of Israel when she was in distress. Thank God the king was wise, he redirected her focus to the Lord. We must channel our prayers to the right person. No wonder Psalm 5:3 says: “…in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will ...

MEMORISE: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1 READ:  Matthew 4:1-4 1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. MESSAGE:  A common weak point in the lives of many believers is impatience. Unfortunately, the devil exploits this. This is why the devil tempts believers to turn ‘stone to bread’ – meaning that he tries to get them to rush ahead in life without waiting for God’s time and provision. When this happens, the beli...

TOPIC:   IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH!     MEMORISE: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 READ:  John 4:21-24 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. MESSAGE:  It is sad that today, many people pretend to worship God all in the name of religion. They worship in the flesh but not in spirit and truth. This is why Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5: “ ….Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” The mess...

TOPIC:   MY PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU.     MEMORISE: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:7 READ:  John 14:27 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. MESSAGE:  Nothing tangible can be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere, organization, family or mind. This is why peace is very important. There are factors that can guarantee peace in the life of an individual, particularly a child of God. The first is genuine salvation. Sin brought about the trouble that man encountered right from the Garden of Eden. Proverbs 28:1 says: “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Thus, whoever desires peace must seek the Author of salvation, Jesus Christ. We see this in our memory verse for today, as well as in Matthew 11:28, in which Jesus ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY 23rd JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:   THE NAME OF THE LORD.     MEMORISE: Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8 READ:  Philippians 2:9-11  9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. MESSAGE:  When we call on the name of the Lord, we remind Him of what He has done in the past, which He is capable of doing over and over again. At such when we call Him by the name that is associated with some specific wonderous deed of His, He is moved to repeat what He did initially and in a greater dimension. Each name of the Lord describes some of His attributes and what He is capable of doing among the children of men. For example, the Lord’s name-Jehovah-Nissi- meaning the Lord is my ba...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY 22nd JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:   REMEMBER ME, O LORD II.     MEMORISE: And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. Genesis 30:22 READ:  1 Samuel 1:17-19 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. 18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. 19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. MESSAGE:  When we say God always remembers, we do not mean that He forgets things or people. ‘God remembers’ means that He has decided to do something. Our Bible reading for today says God remembered Hannah. God could not have forgotten her because she and her family went to Shiloh every year to worship Him (1 Samuel 1:3). When God remembers an individual in nee...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY 21st JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:   REMEMBER ME, O LORD I .     MEMORISE: For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. Psalm 105:42 READ:  Nehemiah 13:13-14 13 And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren. 14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof. MESSAGE:  When God remembers a positive promise He has made concerning an individual, the fellow is in for a pleasant surprise. Luke 1:73-75 confirms this. In Genesis 8:1, the Lord remembered Noah and every living thing with him in the ark. When God remembers His mercy, He abandons judgement, provided the fellow has genuinely repented (Ezekiel 33:13-16). Another good thing about this divine remem...

TOPIC:   THE FATHER’S BLESSING    MEMORISE: The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren. Genesis 49:26 READ:  Genesis 27:22-29 22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau. 23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him. 24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am. 25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and he drank. 26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. 27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and bles...

TOPIC:   FRUITLESSNESS IS DISASTROUS.    MEMORISE: He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. John 15:2 READ:  Luke 13:6-7. 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? MESSAGE:  Jesus told a parable about an unproductive, but well nurtured fig tree in today’s Bible reading. The reaction of the person tending this tree, in Luke 13:7, is our concern in today’s devotional. The farmer in this parable had been expecting pleasant fruits based on his efforts; unfortunately, he got nothing. Like this farmer in Luke 3:9, John the Baptist told the Jewish religious leaders of his days: “And now also the axe ...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY 18th JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:   HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.     MEMORISE: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 READ:  John 4:31-34 31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. MESSAGE:  It is a common saying that salvation is free. While this is true because no one can pay for the salvation Jesus offers, the reality is that Jesus already paid for it on our behalf. Thus, we would be correct if we say salvation is not free after all. Also, it is not free because recipients too have a token to offer in obtaining eternal life, as we will see today. In Matthew 13:45-46, Jesus describes how precious the Kingdom of God is, by likening it to...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY 17th JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:   PRAYER WORKS!     MEMORISE: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. Joel 2:32 READ:  Psalm 30:1-3 1I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. MESSAGE:  Beloved, you must know that life is a battleground. Revelation 12:12 says that the devil has come in because he lost out in Heaven as a result of his rebellion against God. Apart from the devil, even mankind has, from the beginning of time, been wicked to one another. The story of Cain and Abel is a classic example. No wonder Jeremiah 17:9 says: “The heart is deceitful above all thin...

TOPIC:  THE SIN OF CONVERTOUSNESS.    MEMORISE: And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15 READ:  Exodus 18:21 21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: MESSAGE:  Covetousness is a major challenge both in the Church and in the world today. Worldliness too has become a great foe of the Church and it appears many Christians (irrespective of how long they have been in the faith), are being carried along. This may be because even they are victims of this sinful habit. Our Lord Jesus, in today’s memory verse warns us against covetousness. Covetousness can be described as an inordinate desire for material or non-material possessions, especially those of another individu...

TOPIC:   OUR SURE FORTRESS    MEMORISE: I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 91:2 READ:  Psalm 71:3-7 3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. 4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. 5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. 6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee. 7 I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. MESSAGE:  The Most High is also a fortress. A fortress is where you go out from to fight. After you have stayed in the refuge for some time and have prepared for the battle, it will become your fortress. A fortress is where you put on your armor, get all your strength and then go out to battl...

TOPIC:   OUR SURE REFUGE.    MEMORISE: The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9 READ:  Psalm 71:1-2 1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. 2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. MESSAGE:  Knowledge, particularly godly knowledge is power. This is why Paul in Philippians 3:10 prayed: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” The Almighty God is our sure refuge and fortress. However, that only applies if you are His child. A refuge is somewhere you hide when trouble is looming. For me, this place is the presence of God. Sometimes, hiding is not cowardice. it could be wisdom, provided you are hiding with the Sure Refuge. Even gallant warriors learn to hide; it is a military strategy. There are several occasions in the Bible when G...

TOPIC:  THE WORD DELIVERS .    MEMORISE: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20   READ:  Jeremiah 33:1-9 1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; 3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. 4 For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword; 5 They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city. 6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto the...

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY 12th JUNE 2021.

TOPIC:  BE A GOOD UNDER-SHEPHERD.    MEMORISE: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1 Peter 5:2   READ:  Matthew 28:19-20 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. MESSAGE:  The situation in Jeremiah’s time as seen in today’s Bible reading closely reflects the true state of affairs of God’s people. The Bible says that all these were written as examples for those who shall be alive at the end-times. The ongoing fulfilment of end-time prophesies is an indication that the end is near ( 1 Corinthians 10:11). In this end-time, many pastors and preachers are no longer building precious stones on the Sure Foundation- Jesus Christ. Rat...

TOPIC:  LET THERE BE ORDER.    MEMORISE: Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40 READ:  2 Thessalonians 3:6-7 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; MESSAGE:  Many people do not know the depth of the saying “Our Father is a God of order”. They quote this statement without giving it much thought. Orderliness is a characteristic of Heaven as we see in Psalm 136:5-9. Every confusion in your life will be divinely ordered today in the mighty name of Jesus. The Lord will set in order all that pertains to you in Jesus’ name. In the beginning God ordered the course of the universe by His word. This is the reason we must give the word of God prominence in our lives. The Lord said “….I will has...
