MESSAGE: Our title is a coinage of the words ‘heart’ and ‘gratitude’ meaning a heart of gratitude. God can perform miracles in the life of anybody; all He demands is gratitude thereafter. TOPIC: WHO DO YOU PRAY TO? MEMORISE: Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. Psalm 5:2 READ: Psalm 5:1-3. 1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. MESSAGE: The Psalmist, in our memory verse for today, made a great discovery. He found that prayer is very important to anyone who wants to be victorious in life. Not only that, the Person to whom we channel our prayers is even more important. In 2 Kings 6:26-27, we see a woman who misdirected her prayer to the King of Israel when she was in distress. Thank God the king was wise, he redirected her focus to the Lord. We must channel our prayers to the right person. TOPIC: IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH! MEMORISE: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 READ: John 4:21-24 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. TOPIC: MY PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU. MEMORISE: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 READ: John 14:27 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. MESSAGE: Nothing tangible can be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere, organization, family or mind. This is why peace is very important. There are factors that can guarantee peace in the life of an individual, particularly a child of God. The first is genuine salvation. Sin brought about the trouble that man encountered right from the Garden of Eden. Proverbs 28:1 says: “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Thus, whoever desires peace must seek the Author of salvation, Jesus Christ. MESSAGE: When we call on the name of the Lord, we remind Him of what He has done in the past, which He is capable of doing over and over again. At such when we call Him by the name that is associated with some specific wonderous deed of His, He is moved to repeat what He did initially and in a greater dimension. MESSAGE: When we say God always remembers, we do not mean that He forgets things or people. ‘God remembers’ means that He has decided to do something. MESSAGE: Jesus told a parable about an unproductive, but well nurtured fig tree in today’s Bible reading. TOPIC: HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. MEMORISE: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 READ: John 4:31-34 31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. MESSAGE: It is a common saying that salvation is free. While this is true because no one can pay for the salvation Jesus offers, the reality is that Jesus already paid for it on our behalf. Thus, we would be correct if we say salvation is not free after all. Also, it is not free because recipients too have a token to offer in obtaining eternal life, as we will see today. Worldliness too has become a great foe of the Church and it appears many Christians (irrespective of how long they have been in the faith), are being carried along. TOPIC: OUR SURE REFUGE. MEMORISE: The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. MESSAGE: Knowledge, particularly godly knowledge is power. This is why Paul in Philippians 3:10 prayed: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” The Almighty God is our sure refuge and fortress. However, that only applies if you are His child. A refuge is somewhere you hide when trouble is looming. For me, this place is the presence of God.
