Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
Memorise: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8
Read: Luke 8:1-3
Occasionally, individuals, families, communities or
governments organise special events such as special wedding receptions, state
banquets, special awards, etc where entry would strictly be by invitation. At
such gatherings, some uninvited guests could manage to gatecrash. At the gate,
they would be asked for their pass and in reply they will say they have none
but are there in company of someone who has a pass. They may be allowed in
purely out of mercy. Like the uninvited guests, believers can only come to the
dinner table of the Lord out of sheer mercy. None of us is qualified to dine
with the King of kings except by grace. Romans 6:23 says sin kills and all have
sinned and are wanting in glory (Romans 3:23). Sin has wages and pays the
sinner the wages they will never like. Psalm 107:17-20 says sin produces
sickness, affliction, bondage, distress and every evil thing possible. Ono the
other hand, holiness births life, health, joy and peace.
A look at exodus 15:26, Deuteronomy 28:1-2, and Deuteronomy
28:11-13, clearly shows that by God’s standard, if you are living a holy life,
apart from being repeatedly blessed, your victory is sure and your
breakthroughs are bound to come. Conversely, based on the above scriptures, by
the standard of God, every sinner deserves to be sick, bound, poor and
defeated. Holiness is what guarantees divine health, blessing, victory,
promotion, etc. Although not many people qualify for these because they are not
holy, but occasionally grace steps in. In John 5:2-14, Jesus first healed the
sick before talking about holiness. That is grace! In Luke 8:1-3, He delivered
Mary Magdalene first before turning her into a vessel of honour. That is grace!
In Luke 5:1-11, Jesus gave Peter his first major breakthrough before asking him
to follow Him. We are beneficiaries of His grace. How many of us qualify for
the blessings the Lord gives to us? Do you really think you deserve that
position you occupy? Or do you think you qualify for an invitation to dine with
Him in spite of your short comings? It is grace in action. May His grace never
run dry in your life!
PRAYER POINT:
Father, never let Your grace run out in my life.
Bible in one year: Numbers 34-36
