TOPIC: GOD WILL EMPOWER YOU MEMORISE : “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” - (2 Peter 1:3) READ: Isaiah 41:10-13 (KJV) 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. 11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. 12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. 13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. MESSAGE : In John 20:21, Jesus Christ said, “...as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” In Matthew 10:40, He said, “He that receiveth you re

NO WEAPON Monday 1 October 2012

Memorize: Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. Isaiah 8:10 Read: Isaiah 8:9 -10 God’s promises give us a wide scope of expectations. When God is protecting you, it covers every area leaving no stone unturned. Usually, the devil or any of his agents such as herbalists, false prophets, witches and wizards or occultists could team up with your enemies against you. This is not strange and do not be frightened because of their number. According to His promises, every gang up against you shall meet their waterloo. In fact, Isaiah 54:15-17 assures you that God will never join your enemies against you. Be aware that He is in every evil gathering to know their plot and find out a way to frustrate them. You have a divine representative in every meeting of the evil ones. While they are planning to ensure you, He is planning to reverse their plan. Every evil plan of darkness against you this season shall be dest

FAITHFUL GOD Sunday, September 30, 2012

Memorize: God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Romans 3:4 Read: Lamentations 3:22-23 Apart from grace, one other thing God is unlimited in is faithfulness. Lamentations 3:23 says His faithfulness is great. God is not only faithful, He is incurably faithful. Being a faithful God entails fulfilling every promise made. It also means that in any situation that requires inputs from man and God, when man has done his, God will of necessity do His. In most agreements involving God and man, if there is a breach, it can never be God; it always comes from man if only you take the pain to look beyond the surface. 2 Timothy 2:13 says even if all human beings deny God today, and all His children betray Him, God cannot deny Himself. That means it is not what you say that will make Him to do what He will do. God is very responsible. Romans 3:4 say

ATTITUDE TO DEBTS Saturday, September 29, 2012

Memorize: Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. 2 Kings 4:7 Read: 2 Kings 4:1-7 If you owe God, man or an organization, make every effort to pay up. God expects us to live a debt-free life ( Deuteronomy 15:6 ). Psalms 37:21 says it takes a heart of mercy to return what is borrowed. This implies that if you borrowed something or some money but fail to repay out of choice or you do not make serious effort to repay, you lack mercy, you are heartless and wicked. You are simply repaying evil for good done to you. What does the scripture say about that? When a similar thing was done to David, he decreed that his offenders should by all means come under a wicked boss or leader, and that Satan should personally supervise their misfortune, and that in their judgment there should be no appeal, their prayer should become an abomination to God, their life-span should be shorten

WHAT YARDSTICKS? Friday, September 28, 2012

Memorize: He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. John 12:48 Read: John 12:47-50 Anyone living in a boarding house is compelled to adhere to the rules and regulations operating there. Until you gave your life to Christ, you were in control of your life and you were free to do whatever you liked with it. But the day you give your life to Jesus, it means you have decided to be a boarder in Jesus house and as a result, you must abide by the rules operating there. Psalms 91:1 says: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Everyone in God's boarding house is assured of protection. But the moment you sneak out, you court trouble. Anything that happens to you outside His house is solely your responsibility. Have you chosen Jesus? Then make sure you sign up for everything He stands for. God's kin

WAIT MORE ON HIM! Thursday, September 27, 2012

Memorize: My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Psalms 130:6 Read: Genesis 18:1-14 When God decides to bless, He does not know how to be miserly. Hence, Psalms 68:19 says He releases loads of blessings on a daily basis. Jesus taught us to ask for our daily bread ( Matthew 6:11 ). When we ask for our daily bread, He gives us a load of benefits for that day. If only you receive yours daily, you will lack nothing but enjoy abundance on daily basis. May this be your daily experience from today! In Genesis 12:1-3 , He did not only promise to bless Abraham but also to make him a blessing through which the whole world will be blessed. To be a recipient of such blessing, you must be prepared to go to other nations. Before He made Abraham a channel that blessed the world, God asked him first to leave where he was. According to Matthew 28:18-20 , if you want to be a blessing to the world, yo

DESIRE IT Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Memorize : One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. Psalms 27:4 Read: Exodus 33:18-23 Moses was a student of the school of obedience. So also was Jesus and great Bible heroes. The grade with which you graduate from this school goes a long way in determining the glory of God you will have and the fulfillment of your destiny. As Moses' score in obedience improved, he began to witness certain developments in his life. He became a carrier of God's high level of glory and also attracted God's presence wherever he went. Other Israelites went to the tabernacle to pray and worship God but nothing unusual happened. But when Moses entered the same tabernacle, the pillar of cloud came and stood at the door of the tabernacle. As he persisted in obedience and prayed, not only did the cloud of glory become a reocc

FINGER OF MERCY Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Memorize: To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Daniel 9:9 Read: John 8:2-11 The finger of God is significant in that it is an agent of healing. In Mark 7:31-37 , when a deaf and dumb fellow had a touch from the finger of Jesus, his ears opened and his tongue was loosed. As that finger touches you today, healing will take place. If you want to be healed of any type of sickness, you do not need God to come down, but just a touch of His finger. No sickness or disease can remain in the body His finger has touched. He will touch you today and if there is any sickness, it will disappear forever. Similarly, the finger of God writes forgiveness and pardon for the guilty. In John 8:2-11 , when some people brought a woman who was caught in the act of adultery to Jesus, they quoted the law and presented a strong case which should have claimed her life. But while the accusations were being levied against her, Jesus sto

HE PROTECTS AND PRESERVES Monday, September 24, 2012

Memorize: When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned: neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:2 Read: Isaiah 43:1-2 Among the challenges of man today are the need for protection and preservation. Do you know that God, who had gone ahead of man has adequately provided for these needs to be met? To protect is to ensure that an individual is not harmed or injured. Protection may require an immediate action. Everybody needs protection in the midst of so much insecurity. Today, many go to bed with one eye opened. The slightest noise jolts them up and they may keep a vigil for the rest of the night. Is it on the roads that people are safe? Ladies are raped at dark spots or bus stops by the roadside at night. What about accidents claiming lives of those traveling by air, road, rail or even sea? To protect

INDEBTED? Saturday 22 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous showeth mercy, and giveth. Psalms 37:21 Read: Hebrews 12:1-2 O ne way of identifying the righteous is by their attitude towards repaying what they borrowed. As stated in the memory verse, it is a wicked person that borrows and refuses to pay. Many Christians are guilty of this. Did you borrow some books or materials from the library, your office, church or an individual but have no intention of returning them? Or have you converted the properties of others kept in your care into your own? Then you are not righteous but wicked. Some people are assisted with a loan to start a business but when it is time to repay, they will start to either give excuses or deliberately avoid their creditors. Some will even wickedly refuse to take their calls or even change their SIM cards. Yet some of these people are pastors, ministers and workers in God’s vineya

LUKEWARMNESS Friday 21 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. Luke 11:23 Read: Matthew 12:29-31 O ne major problem of the church in Laodicea was their lukewarmness. I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. Revelation 3:15 On the thermometer of God, He expects you to read cold or hot but not in-between. Usually, people do not like lukewarm water. If you are given lukewarm water to quench your thirst, your stomach might get filled up but your thirst will not be quenched, this is annoying. Whereas, if you took a few glasses of cold water, the thirst will be quenched even if your stomach is not filled. Lukewarmness brings about a lot of waste. If you are lukewarm in your attitude to God and the things of His kingdom, you will be a great waste to God’s kingdom. You may not be able to quench the thirst of the King of kings! Luke

AND JORDAN PARTED Thursday 20 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 1 Thessalonians 4:11 Read: 2 Kings 7:3-11 W hen Elisha cried in desperation and smote the waters, the scripture says the river parted for him like it did for his spiritual father (2 Kings 2:14). This tells us that whatever happens to the father can happen to the son as long as the latter satisfies the conditions. For instance, Jesus walked on water and Peter did the same when he acted in faith but his colleagues could not do so because they failed to dare. One of the most exciting passages in the Bible is John 14:12. Here Jesus says: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. From the day I read this passage, I believed with every fibre of my being that before I die, I

SCHOOL OF OBEDIENCE Wednesday 19 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. Job 36:11 Read: Exodus 4:2-4 I n Exodus 3:10-14, after God asked Moses to go and deliver a message to Pharaoh, Moses objected giving excuses. He argued about his unworthiness for the assignment and said he did not have enough information about God’s identity. It is good to have sufficient knowledge about God but waiting until you know everything about God or the assignment may just be a wait in futility. God’s revelation comes to us in phases and stages. You may not know everything about an assignment before you start. Even Jesus left the disciples without disclosing some information to them because they were not mature enough to handle them. However, for Moses to go on this assignment, knowing God as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was enough, as God’s dealing with them at this point was hinged

SUPREMACY OF GOD’S FINGER Tuesday 18 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: For thou has girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. Psalms 18:39 Read: Exodus 8:18-19 T he finger of God can write upon tablets of stone, upon a man and in his heart. Besides these, another significance of the finger of God is that it speaks of the enemy’s limitations vis-Ă -vis God’s supremacy. In Exodus 8:16-19, Moses went to deliver God’s request to Pharaoh to release the children of God. As a sign of being sent by God, he turned his rod into a snake. In defiance, Pharaoh summoned his sorcerers, wise men and magician who used their magical powers to do the same (Exodus 7:8-12). After he turned water into blood they repeated the same (Exodus 7:14-22). When he brought frogs from the river upon the land, the magicians did something similar (Exodus 8:1-7). For every plague that the magicians were able to repeat, the heart of Pharaoh was hardened the

NOT A CLOWN Monday 17 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorize: For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37 Read: Luke 1:26-37 P romises determine expectations. For instance, if a father makes a promise of a toy car to his child while leaving for work, the hope and expectation of that child will be based on that promise. You can be sure the child will announce it to his friends at school that day. In addition, promises also define the scope of expectations. A particular child can expect one toy while another child might expect three based on the promise made to them by their respective fathers. In the same vein, we base our expectations of God upon the promises He has given to us. Unlike earthly parents who are limited in resources with which to fulfil their promises, our God is not. One striking thing about God is that because of His infinite ability, He is able to make incredible promises, yet He is both willing and able to perform them. Human minds find

FAVOURABLE MISTAKES Sunday 16 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land. Jeremiah 42:12 Read: 1 Samuel 9:1-10, 17 W hen you go by the road side, you may meet a beggar asking for alms. He did not work for you at any time and you probably already have plans for the money on you, yet mercy compels you to suspend your needs and give something to meet his need. Mercy makes an individual to get what he or she did not deserve just like the beggar. May mercy work in your favour from today in Jesus name. In 1956, while living with my uncle, we had our fair share of poverty. He was poor but I was poorer. We mutually shared whatever we had. One day, we were very hungry and there was no food in sight. Then all of a sudden a young girl approached us and said her sister asked her to give us the food she was carrying - pounded yam with vegetable soup and chicken. My uncle told her

NO MORE COMPROMISE Saturday 15 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorize: My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. Proverbs 1:10 Read: Daniel 3:12-18 B esides loving righteousness and hating evil, the righteous are identified by their zero tolerance for compromise. During hard and trying times, while some Christians use the situation as excuses for compromising their faith, the righteous happily use such times as opportunities to stand up for Jesus. Job 17:9 says: The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. The righteous will prefer to lose his or her job than compromise the faith. In Daniel 3, the three Hebrew children stood tall for Jesus. When their colleagues bowed to the golden image out of fear, they told the king, “O king, we respect you but we choose the fire to bowing down to a lifeless image”. God watches with keen interest whenever His children are asked to compromise. Your ability to say “N

DIVINE INTRODUCTION Friday 14 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 Read: 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 W hen the Lord wrote to the church in Laodicea, He introduced Himself to them as the Amen, the Faithful Witness and the Beginning of the Creation of God (Revelation 3:14). You will notice that He introduced Himself using different titles and abilities from church to church. Every church is peculiar and known to its Owner. Every church deserved the type of introduction they got. The way the Lord will introduce Himself to you might be quite different from how He will introduce Himself to another brother, depending on your works, relationship with Him and your needs. If the Lord were to introduce Himself to you today, what titles will He use? Also, the way He introduces Himself speaks of His next line of action as well as His expected response from you to prevent that acti

DESPERATION IS ALLOWED Thursday 13 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Luke 11:9 Read: Luke 11:5-10 W hen Elisha cried to God in 2 Kings 2:14, River Jordan parted for him as soon as he smote the waters. You must realize his cry was out of distress. He was desperate. The Psalmist says in Psalms 120:1: In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. God attends to distress calls and He answers the desperate. Elisha’s outburst was out of desperation and he had every reason to be desperate. Since he left his home, he never went back. Even if he returned home, he could never return to his farming profession because he had earlier killed all his oxen and destroyed his farming tools. He had burnt the bridges and there was no looking back. Besides, he was at the bank of River Jordan where he had no ship or boat. There was no bridge across the river and

MANDATE: NO NEGOTIATION! Wednesday 12 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorize: Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God. 1 Corinthians 7:24 Read: 1 Corinthians 7:18-24 I f there was one Bible character who was sure of his divine calling and followed it to the end, it was Moses. He gave no room for negotiation with Pharaoh. But supposing after the initial demonstration of power at the palace, Pharaoh reminded Moses of his childhood days when they both grew up as princes in the same palace, and based on his antecedents offered Moses a big reward or position in Egypt in place of his God-given mission to liberate the Israelite? What would have become the fate of the Israelite if Moses had compromised? Today, several fire-brand preachers of salvation, holiness, and deliverance have negotiated their calling with the devil and received in its place pleasure, worldly fame, glory, wealth and position. Have you dumped your high calling and specific assignment for some w

ENGRAVED IN THE HEART Tuesday 11 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. Hebrews 8:11 Read: Hebrews 8:9-13 T he finger of God is an agent of creation and a mark of God’s authority. They were also used in writing His laws. Deuteronomy 9:9-11 says God wrote the Ten Commandments with His finger on tablets of stone. Every author writes a book or puts words and sentences together in order to convey certain ideas or opinions for others to read. The fact that God wrote the Ten Commandments with His own fingers established the fact that He and not Moses is the Author. God not only writes on stones, He writes on men. After Cain killed his brother Abel and God judged him, he requested for a reduction in the punishment, being scared that anyone who sights him might kill him. As a result, God wrote on him – He put a mark of “untouchable

FRIENDS: HOW TRUSTWORTHY? Monday 10 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. Micah 7:5 Read: Micah 7:2-7 A king is a prime target in any war between two kingdoms. The moment he is captured, all his subjects become captives of the victorious king. In Hosea 10:13-15, the Lord told Israel that their expectation for national defence through their men of war would fail and their king would die. It is wrong to invest your expectations, hopes and aspirations in your leader, or men of wealth. They will fail you. Another reason expectations are disappointed is when they are placed on friends. The truth is those individuals most people take as friend are not truly their friends. Some people may be close to you because of mutual interest. These are your associates. By reason of further interactions, you could see them as friends but do you know their hearts? True fri

ACCESSING ABUNDANT MERCY Sunday 9 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. Psalms 103:8 Read: Psalms 103:9-14 A part from supplies, another thing that God has in abundance is mercy. Ephesians 2:4-5 says God is rich in mercy. Psalms 103:11 says: For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Just imagine the space between the surface of the earth, through the sky, before entering the galaxies! God’s mercy covers all that space towards us. If His mercy is that large, then there is enough mercy to go round the billions of earth’s inhabitants. More astounding is the realisation that a very insignificant fraction of that mercy can heal the sick, raise the dead, and do the impossible. But if this is so, why is it that people still run out of God’s mercy? Why did King Saul exhaust his mercy line so soon? Why did the family of Eli run out of God’s mercy at Eli’s

HATRED FOR SIN Saturday 8 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he peserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Psalms 97:10 Read: Psalms 97:9-12 I f you look through the pages of scriptures, you will discover that so much emphasis is placed on righteousness as well as the rewards of righteousness. There is no way you can gloss over this while searching scriptures. God is interested in your works after you are saved. Acts 10:38 says Jesus was full of good works. Some people say it is now only faith, no more works. Lies could not be as profound! James 2:20-26 says faith cannot stand alone. It is works that demonstrate faith and perfect it. Also, you need to combine your works with your faith before you can be justified (James 2:24). How are your works today? Do they tally with Scriptures? Are they in consonance with the works of Jesus Christ? To make it to Heaven, your life must show forth cert

DELAYED OBEDIENCE IS DANGEROUS Friday 7 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye Memorise: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12 Read: Hebrews 5:8-9 O ne major undoing of the church in Laodicea was pride. Lucifer was created perfect in beauty and also had position and power from God. But the day he became proud of what he had (as if they came from him) and began to rub shoulders with God, God simply pushed aside all His investments in Lucifer and began to deal with him based on his pride. If you are carrying out exploits for God but you are proud, don’t be surprised if you make it to Heaven, and you are told there is no record of your achievements there. Do away with pride now before it completely erodes all your gains! Everyone who is proud is indirectly saying he or she is self-sufficient and does not need God for anything. A proud person sees God not as G

LOVE WILL BE TESTED Thursday 6 September 2012

Open Heavens Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye   Memorise: Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16 Read: Genesis 22:1-2 N ot only is love expensive, it may also undergo a trial. If you don’t believe this, ask Abraham. At a time, Abraham was torn between his promised child Isaac and God. It became inevitable for God to test whether he still loved Him (Genesis 22:1-2). Whether you like it or not, your love for God will be tested. Usually it would be based on someone or something you really love. Isaac was about 15 years before the test.   Abraham had become so fond of him to the point of Isaac being inseparable for him. I went through my own test some years ago. It was during a Christ the Redeemer’s Congress which held on the 24 th of December. It was my custom to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays with my mother because of my love for her. I therefore decided t v
